Making Your PC safer without Spending

Ever wonder how to make your PC much safer from spywares, malawares, viruses and Etc.? Well certainly I did wonder before. I used to reformat my PC 3 times because of pesky spywares and then I've learned about Linux operating system. I'm pretty sure you've heard about it, but there is more to it than what you've just heard from someone else. It's a lot better than Windows when it comes to security and better than Mac OS when it comes to the price, 'cause it is all free, it's an open source operating system. There are lots of Linux OS such as kubuntu and Linux mint, but what i'm using now is Ubuntu 11.04 ( Natty Narwhal) which is  the latest release of Ubuntu. It comes with a  Unity interface for a much easier access.
Want to check it out? just visit http://www.ubuntu.com/ and you will be able to see options there how to download it and try it without installing it yet.

Now how does it make your PC safer? Well, First, It is a Unix  based operating system that is commonly used on Servers worldwide because of it complex structure, more complex than that of the Windows. And because it is complex, that Usual virus or spyware that are made in Windows will not be executed and it will be useless. Besides, upon the Installation of Ubuntu, there are already Security features included and updates are readily available due to the fact that it is open source or freely downloadable without any payments to be made so you don't need to buy those expensive Anti-virus Software. It is not 100% safe from viruses but because there is no form of Unix virus existing as of the moment, and  even if those windows virus attach themselves to your files, they wont run because you will have to execute them as a superuser ( done by typing sudo in the command  line) so it cannot replicate itself and harm other files. So let us say, Linux is about 70-80% safe compared to Windows and Mac (although it is also Unix based, but the permissions and file executions is somewhat different than Linux). And the best of all, almost all of its software are free, with the software center, applications and software are easy to get.

Open-source. It's free, now, why is it so? It is because there are lots of developers that are developing such software and programs that are not looking for profit but are looking forward to improve computing. And also, It is easier to develop software in Linux because it is a GNU (gnu's not unix) operating system which was launched  in 1984 with all the utilities and tools to create programs with freedom so, different authors, different sources produce the same quality of software. If one decides to sell his program, then users will just tend to create their own or download from other authors  who offers it for free.

If your interested, then just try it, you can install it side by side with Windows or Mac. It's free and cool.
